High Level System Overview

- Ultrasonic sensors detect car occupancy in each parking spot by emitting a 40 kHz ultrasonic pulse that reflects off objects.
- If the distance is below a certain threshold, a parking spot is considered as occupied.
- The sensor calculates the distance using the time it takes for the pulse to travel to and from the object.
- Distance = (Speed of sound * Round Trip Time) / 2
- Raspberry Pi 3B acts as the edge device, sending parking occupancy data wirelessly to Firestore.
- The ParkBotics mobile app fetches parking data every second and displays it on a dynamic color coded map.
- The Machine Learning model gives wait time predictions based on various features.
- eg. Traffic Level, Temperature, Vehicle, Noise Level, etc.
- Historical parking data is used to fine tune the ML model.

Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Dhanush Arun, the founder of ParkBotics. I’m currently a junior at American High School in Fremont, California. Seeing my parents’ frustration in finding parking spots at the Ardenwood Park & Ride motivated me to build a solution to help ease the parking crisis through technology.
Outside of building tech, I enjoy working out and playing soccer.
